A fresh weather map suggests London will experience an 'Indian summer' as temperatures climb once again next week. Forecasters predict the mercury will reach 22C by next Thursday (October 17) heralding a short period of warmer weather.

But this won't come before a chilly and stormy end of the week. The same maps from WXCharts show brisk 7C temperatures are expected on Friday (October 11), even dropping to 5C the night before. This would make it the coldest night of autumn so far.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for heavy showers for today (8 October). The alert, in effect from 10am to 10pm on October 8, 2024, warns of potential localised disruptions throughout the day.

But WXCharts says the weather in London will gradually improve over the weekend before reaching 19C next Tuesday (October 15). Temperatures are then set to reach 22C by next Thursday - marking an increase of 15C in just six days.

Although the Met Office is predicting the same cold snap on Friday morning, its forecasts don't suggest it will quite reach quite as high temperatures in London. Current predictions show the mercury peaking at 17C next Tuesday although its data for next Thursday has not yet been confirmed.

The Met Office long range weather forecast predicts warmer than average temperatures across southern England next week - although this could come alongside longer periods of cloud and rain. The end of October is expected to bring slightly drier conditions in the south and east of England, despite weather front moving in from the west or northwest.

The current forecast for the end of October into November reads: "It is possible that these drier conditions could be seen more widely later in the month as higher pressure further north extends southwards. This would also bring an increased chance of overnight fog and frost. Temperatures will tend to be close to average overall in the south, but probably below average in the north and northwest. Toward November returning Atlantic fronts more likely again, but some signs of more settled weather remaining in the south."
