London's 'best' cocktail bar forced to shut at busy market over 'circumstances beyond our control'
A popular cocktail bar known for its crystal-clear margaritas is leaving Brixton Market after three and a half years. Hacha will call last orders on Saturday, February 15 before closing their doors on Market Row for good.
In a video posted to Instagram, owners Deano Moncrieffe and Emma Murphy called it a "very difficult decision" but one that is in their "best interests". An accompanying statement reads: "We have wholeheartedly enjoyed being part of the Brixton community and welcoming the thousands of agave lovers that have joined us over the years, but circumstances beyond our control have led us to this decision."
First opened in August 2021, the cosy spot aimed to bring authentic Mexican flair to South London. It quickly become a hit with Londoners thanks to a menu of hearty street tacos, 25 types of agave spirit and award-winning cocktails.

It has also been named the UK Specialist Bar of the Year two years running and took home the title of 'World's Best Paloma' in 2023. The bar also boasts the Mirror Margarita, a unique see-through twist on the classic drink.
Hacha's impending closure has left many customers disappointed, with one saying: "Us Brixtonians will really miss your wonderful place. Nothing sticks here, it’s so sad."
Another wrote online: "No way! Sorry to see them go," whilst a third added: "So sorry to hear the you won’t be part of Brixton Market anymore. I know you will be missed but Hacha Brixton's story and legend will definitely live on.
Luckily, it's not all bad news as sister venue Hacha Dalston will remain open and the team has teased "many exciting things in the pipeline." It is, however, a blow for Brixton Market as traders at the 97-year-old institution are already concerned about the future.
The covered market - made up of Reliance Arcade, Market Row and Brixton Village - was put on the market by its American owners for a reported £80 million last year. Tenants told Southwark News that they weren't informed about the sale and only found out via the newspaper.
Members of the London Assembly have also raised concerns the new deal could threaten London's cultural heritage.
You can find Hacha at 12 Market Row, SW9 8LD until February 15.
