The M6 was closed last night after a crash caused a car fire and oil spillage.

Lancashire Police were called to the incident close to Leyland - between junctions 27 and 28 southbound - at about 10.15pm on Saturday.

Drivers were initially warned of delays of up to 45 minutes. Officers closed all lanes southbound and held traffic which rescue crews dealt with the incident.

Lancashire Police said this morning: "The M6 southbound between J28-27 has now reopened. Thank you for your patience."

The incident followed a spillage on the M6 junction 20 southbound exit slip road on Friday night.

Road users looking to join the M56 were advised to leave the M6 at junction 20 and at the roundabout take the third exit and use the link roads to the M56 J9 from there.
