Long Island Drone Footage Shows Osprey Family Sharing a Meal

New York resident Joanna Steidle captured drone footage of a pair of ospreys feeding their young chicks at a nest in Southampton, Long Island, on June 2.

Steidle told Storyful she was waiting to film the North Haven South Ferry when she came across the scene.

According to New York wildlife officials, there are two main osprey populations in the state – one on Long Island and the other in the Adirondack Mountains. The raptors, who are fish eaters, tend to nest near rivers or ponds atop poles and dead trees, according to wildlife guides. Credit: Joanna Steidle via Storyful
