Long Lines Reported at Milwaukee Polling Stations on Primary Voting Day

Long lines formed outside Wisconsin polling stations on April 7 as voters waited to cast their ballot in the Democratic presidential primary amid the coronavirus pandemic, local media reported.

Hundreds of voters, many wearing masks and standing feet apart from one another, stood outside in lines.

Gov. Tony Evers tried to suspend Tuesday’s Presidential Primary and reschedule for June due to the coronavirus, but the state Supreme Court ruled it must go ahead as planned.

The US Supreme Court also reversed a lower court ruling that had given voters six additional days to return absentee ballots, ruling that only those postmarked by Tuesday and arriving by April 13 should be counted.

Cities have reduced the number of polling sites open, including in Milwaukee, where only five voting sites were open.
