Davina McCall has opened up about her emotional journey while filming the new heart-wrenching series of Long Lost Family. The beloved former Big Brother host expressed feeling "deeply honoured" to have been a part of reuniting families for 13 years, as viewers eagerly await the premiere of the show's 14th season.

"This is a brilliant series," she gushed during a chat with TV Times. "It's about the human spirit. People watch the show to feel warmth but you're also crying for every love you've lost yourself, because we can all relate to people's pain."

In the forthcoming seven-part series, Davina, along with co-presenter Nicky Campbell, will guide participants through gut-wrenching searches, including one where a birth mother seeks out the daughter she hasn't seen in over six decades.

This season promises a 'special episode' delving into the harrowing stolen babies scandal in Spain, which emerged in the 2000s. During General Francisco Franco's dictatorship from 1939 to 1975, it's believed hundreds of thousands of infants were taken from their parents, who were falsely informed of their deaths, only for the children to be handed over to other families with falsified documents.

"The birth mothers have terrible stories," Davina shared, moved by their experiences. She remains hopeful for reunions but recognises the potential trauma for those who might uncover their adoptions and the life-changing implications of such discoveries.

"It's complicated, but also an amazing story," she concluded.

Davina and her co-host Nicky enjoy a brilliant chemistry both on and off the screen, which fans got to witness more when she appeared on ITV1's The Masked Singer earlier this year.

Despite their close friendship, Davina was taken aback as she failed to identify his voice behind the Dippy Egg costume, confessing she "didn't understand" how his vocals slipped past her.

Nicky's singing talent wasn't the only surprise for Davina, but his personality was also an unexpected revelation for her, who initially found him daunting. "He's clever, funny witted and doesn't suffer fools. But I know him now as a completely different person from the one I thought."

She further revealed a gentler side to the tough journalist, stating, "There's something sweet and innocent about Nicky. He's this hard-nosed journalist, but he's so soft."

Reflecting on Nicky's personal experience with adoption, Davina lauded his sensitive nature, describing him as a 'sensitive and kind person'.

Concluding on a touching note, she expressed profound admiration for her colleague: "I have enormous respect for him and love him with all my heart."
