Longleat Center Parcs has been given the go-ahead to install “adventure nets” for guests to “play and explore amongst the trees”. The nets will be set above ground level on steel columns and connected to 2.98m-tall treehouses.

Wiltshire Council has approved the plans, describing the project as a “welcomed attraction to the holiday park”. Made of green and brown netting, the nets will be set up over an existing golf course which is due to be removed following the approval and construction of a new adventure golf course positioned closer to the lake and sports plaza.

The application noted that it was “the ideal woodland setting for guests to embrace the natural environment”. Images submitted with the plans showed families playing up in the trees.

The application stated: “This proposal has been thoughtfully designed to ensure the layout of the adventure nets structure and material choices are sympathetic to its surroundings, with minimal impact to the existing woodland environment.

“The proposed structure covers less area than the existing course therefore allowing more of the forest floor to be restored and planted with appropriate native species that will enhance the overall biodiversity of the site.”

A crane will be used to assemble the nets and, according to the plans, disruption to the existing site landscape will be kept to “an absolute minimum and great care will be taken”.

The case officer report agreed that the intended high level walkway “would not look out of place, with the design aimed at blending in with the trees and allowing guest users to more fully appreciate the surrounding trees”.

Wiltshire Council informed Center Parcs of its approval on Thursday, January 23.
