A SECOND World War mine that has been used to collect money for a lifeboat station has been refurbished.

The mine has been stationed outside Poole Lifeboat Station for many years, but was in need of repair as the bottom “literally rusted off”.

It was adapted to collect money for the lifeboat station many years ago, and it has been outside the station for “as long as anyone can remember”.

Andy Rice from Elite Fabrication and Welding Ltd repaired the mine to make it quay worthy again.

It has also been repainted by Poole lifeboat volunteer helm Jonathan Clark, in lifeboat livery colours.

Jonathan returned the mine back to its spot outside the lifeboat station near Poole Quay with help from Neil Ceconi, another volunteer at the station.

A spokesperson for the lifeboat station said the mine looked “fantastic” after its refurbishment.

"It looks amazing," the spokesperson said.

Poole Lifeboat Station wished to extend their thanks to Andy at Elite Fabrication and Welding, “for being so generous with his time and making it as good as new”.
