  • Baby Archie's mystery godparents appear to have been revealed.

  • One is Prince Harry's former nanny, while the other is a close family friend.

While Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been having a stressful time figuring out their royal futures, baby Archie has been blissfully unaware of the drama surrounding him. Despite being less than a year old, he's one of the most famous babies in the world - and luckily he's surrounded by love in the form of his parents, family and godparents.

Up until now, we haven't known who the latter are. Last year it emerged that the royal couple didn't want to reveal the names of their first-born child's godparents for the exact same reason Meghan and Harry are keeping various other aspects of Archie's life secretive: they want to raise him as a private citizen, away from the glare of the press.

However, according to The Sunday Times, Archie’s godmother is Tiggy Pettifer who was nanny to Harry and William when they were young and his godfather is Mark Dyer, who is one of Harry’s friends and advisors.

They were both asked to be godparents before Archie was christened last July.

Mark Dyer, a former Welsh Guards officer who worked with the royal family when he got the job of equerry to Prince Charles, became very close to Prince William and Prince Harry as they grew up. Described as Prince Harry's 'second dad', Mark effectively served as something of a male counterpart to the young princes' royal nanny, Tiggy Pettifer (formerly known as Tiggy Legge-Bourke), who it's also reported was selected as one of Archie's godparents.

Prince Harry's best friend, Charlie van Straubenzee, is the only other known godparent of eight-month-old Archie. He is one of a family who have long been close to the royals, and Prince Harry served as best man at his wedding to Daisy Jenks in August 2018, just a couple of months after Harry and Meghan's own wedding.

Baby Archie is currently over in Canada with Meghan Markle, residing in Vancouver until Harry joins them in days to come. It's thought the family will make Canada their primary base, although they will be keeping Frogmore Cottage in Windsor as their UK residence, and have promised to repay the £2.4 million in taxpayer money that funded the property's renovation at the start of last year.

In a heartfelt speech last night, Prince Harry described his "great sadness" at stepping back from the royal family, but said "there really was no other option" for he and Meghan after "so many years of challenges".
