Janet Street-Porter has a delivered a health update following on from her operation last Wednesday after doctors found a basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer, on her nose.

Last week, the Loose Women panellist appeared on the show to open up about the diagnosis she’d received before Tuesday afternoon saw the journalist declare she was "feeling very positive" in the aftermath of the surgery.

"I went and they anaesthetised my nose… basically it’s the kind of surgery where they slice away just the top part of your skin and then they go and analyse it, so they’re only removing the bare minimum of the cells.

“It takes a couple of hours and then they stitch it back up,” she explained.

The 73-year-old went on: “The surgeon said to me he’s very confident that in a few months you won’t see the scar at all. And tomorrow I’m going to have the stitches out so next week, presumably, I’ll look a little bit different. At the end of the day, it’s just a scar, and I’ve still got a nose and a face and everything else and I’m feeling very positive about it.”

The NHS website states a basal cell carcinoma accounts for approximately 75 in every 100 skin cancers and does not typically spread to other parts of the body.

Street-Porter remarked that "hundreds" of people had been in touch to say they'd undergone the same procedure or were waiting to do so as she urged them to "get it done".

She had originally intended to have the operation back in March, however, her plans were disrupted by lockdown in the UK.
