Loose Women's Janet Street-Porter branded 'disgusting' after mocking Denise Welch live on air

Loose Women panellist Janet Street-Porter caused a bit of a stir among ITV's daytime viewers after she cheekily took a jab at her co-star Denise Welch during Tuesday's episode.

The panel, which included Brenda Edwards and host Christine Lampard, were in the middle of a heated debate about whether parents should incentivise their children for exam success when Janet couldn't resist boasting about her 11 'O' levels.

Denise, who used to be on Corrie, shared a story from her own school days, saying: "When I was doing my 'O' Levels, my mum and dad could have offered me the world and I would have still climbed down the drainpipe to go and be with my boyfriend. I was awful as regards revising and studying and it just wasn't for me."

After revealing that she managed to get five 'O' Levels, Janet retorted, "Is that all? ", leading Denise to admit that she had to take her exams twice because she had to resit Needlework, according to OK!

Janet, always one to stir the pot, made sure to point out that one of Denise's five 'O' Levels was in Needlework, followed by a chuckle. Denise quickly responded with, "And we're all on the same show, thank you very much!"

Despite Denise taking Janet's dig in stride, fans watching from home weren't too pleased with Janet's sharp banter with her colleague, the Mirror reports.

One viewer supported Denise, commenting: "I must say I was cross with JSP boasting about how many O'Levels she achieved and belittling Denise for achieving 5 O' Levels and one being for needlework.

"How disgusting. Who does she think she is. I was impressed with Denise's responses to the digs JSP made."

Another agreed, remarking: "Janet is so rude."

Earlier on, Denise and Janet had a clash over views on infidelity during the show. They both admitted to their own past mistakes, which influenced their stance on not judging others too harshly.

Denise mused:"Back in the day, I wouldn't, no. If I was in that situation, I wouldn't have judged someone if they had possibly cheated. I always think that there's not excuses for things, but there are reasons for things."

Janet began her input with: "Like Denise, I was a compulsive cheater..." However, Denise quickly set the record straight by asserting, "I wasn't compulsive," prompting laughter from the audience as the panel smoothly continued their debate without further conflict.
