'Lord of the Wedding Rings' is Britain's most married man - after tying the knot EIGHT times

Ron Sheppard, from Martock, Somerset, first walked down the aisle 47 years ago, and has since fathered eight children and has 13 grandchildren

Ron Sheppard has staked his claim as Britain’s most married man - after tying the knot EIGHT times.

The 65-year-old Romeo first walked down the aisle 47 years ago, and has since fathered eight children and has 13 grandchildren.

His marriages have lasted from eight months to 13 years - and his current relationship is going strong after a decade.

Despite claiming that marriage is for life, Ron simply reckons it took him ‘longer than most to find the right one’.

The retired holiday camp entertainer has had such a rollercoaster love life he could even have a film made about his eight marriages.

Ron, from Martock, Somerset, has married eight women since his first ceremony aged 19, in 1966.

He has tied the knot with ex-wives Margaret, Jeanette, Lesley, Kathy, Sue, Usha and Wan.

He said he finally settled down after finding his 'true love' and 'soul mate' in Weng - who he met online shortly after separating from previous Thai wife Wan in 2003.

The couple, who live together in Martock, Somerset celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary on November 15.

Ron said: 'I have never felt true love and genuinely believe there is the right person for everyone out there.

'Unfortunately for me, it took me longer than most to find the right one.

'I was 19 when I first married and was very young and naive. With some of the marriages, I just didn't have the heart to say no and it seemed to be the decent thing to marry.

'I have had eight mothers-in-law so I must be brave.

'Weng has changed me inside out. Every day with her is like a honeymoon. Before that I was usually at the divorce court.

'It was different when I was younger. It was frowned upon if you lived with a woman without marrying her. So I guess that's why I married so much.'

Ron has spent 44 of the last 48 years married. His longest union lasted 13 years and the shortest just 10 months.

The marriages have brought him eight children and 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Ron met Weng after he sent an email to a Christian relationship advisor in the Philippines shortly after splitting with his seventh wife Wan after just eight months in 2003.

He poured his heart out in a lengthy message and kept in touch with Weng before flying out to Santa Rosa, Laguna, Philippines, to meet her the following May.

The couple instantly 'clicked' and he married Weng on the Isle of Wight a month later on November 15, 2004.

Ron is currently in talks with a British production company from Bournemouth, and film companies in America after he rejected an offer by Indian Pictures Group Worldwide.

It is rumoured that Jude Law is being head-hunted to play the role of the much-married husband.

Other actors that Mr Sheppard would like to see in the film include Julie Walters and Dawn French.
