Lorraine Kelly has weighed in on the decision for Declan Donnelly to present the remaining episodes of Saturday Night Takeaway without Ant McPartlin.

It was announced yesterday that Dec would be presenting the last two episodes of the series alone, following Ant's return to rehab in the wake of a drink driving charge.

Reflecting on Dec's "careful" decision, Lorraine Kelly said today (March 22) that she, and pretty much everyone else, has faith in Dec's ability to go it alone.

"It's going to take Ant as long as it takes him to get better – and hopefully he will," she reflected, before adding: "Dec's a good presenter.

"He could end up being the Bruce Forsyth of this world, who knows?"

Lorraine isn't the only star to speak out publicly about the recent events involving Ant and Dec – Piers Morgan recently said that he too thinks Dec should continue his career.

"I think Dec is going though a real crisis himself now about what to do career-wise. I honestly do think the show must go on.

"And even though they always agreed they wouldn't do it without each other, that's under normal circumstances," he argued.

"[Dec] is devastated for his mate but also he's worried about the Ant and Dec brand – it's the biggest brand in the country on television and it's being damaged.

"I think the time has come, given it's the second time round on this, for Dec to be not selfish but look after himself too. He's very successful in his own right."

Saturday Night Takeaway is off screens this weekend and will be replaced with The Voice UK in the usual 7pm timeslot. A repeat of Through the Keyhole will follow at 9pm.

Saturday Night Takeaway will return to ITV in its usual slot on March 31 and will conclude at Universal Resort Orlando in Florida as originally planned.
