Lorraine Kelly has said "you've really hurt me" as she unloaded on a journalist in a row over her book. A journalist slammed the rise of celebrities writing books, namechecking Jamie Oliver in particular in a scathing article this week.

The journalist slammed the Naked Chef's latest efforts to be an author, writing: "I only know that he's one of those famous people who get to 'write' children’s books simply by being famous. He’s not the only one."

She then went on to name Lorraine too - with the 64-year-old Scottish host slamming her criticism, writing: "So Deborah - really love your writing but FFS - I wrote every feckin word of my novel #theislandswimmer - hardest thing I’ve ever done."

She sadly added: "You’ve really hurt me." In reply, a Twitter/X user wrote back in support: "Didn’t know you’d written a book lovely Lorraine…. But I just bought it!!! #theislandswimmer." A second said: "Loved #TheIslandSwimmer. Listened to the audiobook and your reading really brought it to life. Your knowledge of and love for the Orkney setting really shone through."

"I’m not going to read her article but for the record, I loved your book Lorraine it was so easy to read and your love of Orkney shone through," another wrote. "Oh Lorraine, I haven’t read this article but plllease don’t let anyone hurt you that doesn’t know you, because if they don’t know you then they just don’t matter in your life! Only those that love you and you love back are the important ones," agreed another.

And another typed: "Really enjoyed your book and will definitely buy your next novel. Some people should learn when to keep quiet." Another said: " loved your book and left it in a lovely Bothy at Torrisdale castle Estate for someone else to enjoy. Looking forward to the next one."

"I'm not going to click on the article as that gives them £ apparently. You are wonderful my lass :) I've not read it as I tend to read random stuff about "flight testing the Vulcan bomber" but also may re-read Rivals. A worthy adaptation of it, I binged the lot," said another.
