Police shut part of the A500 for hours after a lorry 'came off the carriageway'. Officers, paramedics and firefighters were called to the D-road's stretch between Hanford and the M6 towards the tail-end of yesterday's rush-hour.

As reported by StokeonTrentLive the northbound stretch had to be shut. Emergency services were sent to the scene at 5.50pm yesterday 'following reports of a Scania lorry coming off the carriageway'.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers attended alongside highways, crews from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, and paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service. The road was closed while recovery for the lorry was arranged and leftover debris was cleared. The driver was not injured."
