A lorry driver has admitted causing the death of a North Wales woman who was run over while sleeping outside a garage. Nicole Cummings was sleeping rough outside a Shell garage on Scotland Road, Everton, Merseyside when she was hit and killed by the HGV.

The tragedy happened on August 10 last year. On Thursday, Alec Keiran, 52, of Daisy Meadow, Bamber Bridge, appeared in Liverpool Crown Court and admitted causing death by dangerous driving.

He will be sentenced on September 30, reports the Liverpool Echo. At Liverpool Coroners Court, coroner Anita Bhardwaj opened and adjourned the inquest into Ms Cummings' sudden death pending the outcome of the court case.

She said: "On August 10 2023 at around 8.30am, a Volvo HGV was heading to make a delivery at Shell on Scotland Road corner, and as it turned left from Scotland Road onto Wilbraham Street, into the petrol station forecourt, that vehicle was involved in a collision with Nicole Cummings. She was lying on the floor, on the ground. As a result, she was pronounced deceased at the scene." A post-mortem ruled her cause of death was "multiple crush injuries to the neck, head and chest".

Ms Cummings, who was born in Bodelwyddan, was described by Vauxhall residents as a "lovely woman" who "helped everyone she met" and "never caused anyone any harm". Following her death, people in the Vauxhall area raised concerns about the safety of the junction at Wilbraham Road and Scotland Road, as double-yellow lines banning parking in the area had faded over time.

A Liverpool City Council spokesman said the authority would be "carrying out maintenance work on the road to address worn out road markings".
