A lorry carrying toilet roll collided with a railway bridge in South-east London.

A number of roads were closed in the area when emergency services were called to Verdant Lane in Lewisham at 8.10am in response to the incident.

There are no reports of any injuries.

A passer-by John Stevens tweeted "Ooops…toilet roll lorry in the s*** on the South circular" as he shared photos of loo rolls exposed as the lorry's container gawped open.

Sky News' political correspondent Rob Powell replied: "Nasty skid marks there."

Police have confirmed enquires into the circumstances around the incident is ongoing, while motorists are advised to avoid the area due to "the extensive build-up of traffic."

The Metropolitan Police said: "Structural engineers are at the location and are assessing the scene.

"The vehicle remains at the scene."
