This year, Halloween will look a lot different in Los Angeles. The county's health officials announced that traditional Halloween activities like trick-or-treating, parties, festivals and haunted houses will not be permitted this fall due to the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19. This applies not just to the city of Los Angeles, but all neighborhoods located within the county.

New guidelines from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health outline which Halloween activities will/will not be permitted this year. The first activity to be cut is none other than trick-or-treating.

"Door-to-door trick-or-treating is not allowed because it can be very difficult to maintain proper social distancing on porches and at front doors especially in neighborhoods that are popular with trick or treaters," the guidelines read. In addition to traditional trick-or-treating, "trunk-or-treating" events, in which children go car to car for treats, have also been banned.

Furthermore, haunted house attractions, carnivals, and festivals will not be allowed. In fact, all parties and gatherings that include non-household members are banned, even if conducted outside.

The guidelines continue to highlight what will be allowed during the Halloween 2020 season. Car parades, themed drive-in movie theater screenings, themed restaurant dining, and outdoor art installations can still take place if they comply with the public health protocols already put into place. The county also adds that online parties, contests, and front yard decorations are still allowed.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, 249,241 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed as of Tuesday. In Los Angeles County, 6,036 people have died from the novel coronavirus so far.
