A dad’s lost wallet has been returned to him seven years after he lost it – with £134 still inside.

Andy Evans, 45, left the wallet in a taxi in 2015 when returning home from a concert in Heaton Park, Manchester.

Dad-of-two Evans had noticed the wallet was missing when he left the black mini-bus style taxi in Wythenshawe, but he had not got the company's details so was unable to contact the driver.

To his surprise, he recently received a package containing his brown wallet and all its contents.

Evans said: “I just couldn’t believe it.

“I thought ‘it can’t be’. Seven years? No one I’ve told can believe it either.

"I texted my brother straight away as he had to lend me money on the night so I could stay out and keep partying, so he remembered it, and he’s gobsmacked as well."

Evans will have to take a trip to the bank to exchange the old 10, five and one pound currency as they have now gone out of circulation, but he is still able to use the two old-style £20 notes.

The package, which was sent by recorded delivery, had an email address, and Evans sent a thank-you message.

The person replied the wallet had been found in an old taxi and signed off, ‘Manchester Taxi Driver’.

The message read: “7 years…..Wow. The wallet was found in an old taxi and looked untouched. I hope all the belongings are there. Get yourself to a bank to get the money updated and enjoy. All the best.”

Evans added: “It appears it’s been sat there wedged underneath the seat or something all this time, even by the sounds of it after this taxi came off the road.

“It’s like Robinson Crusoe or something. A message in a bottle coming back years later. You couldn’t write it.”
