Lottery expert shares numbers to always avoid if you want to win big jackpot

Everyone dreams of hitting the jackpot, even those who don't play the lottery.

Just think about the luxury holidays, designer bags, fancy cars and dream homes you could afford if you struck it lucky. However, there are certain numbers you might want to avoid if you're serious about winning, as they've been historically less frequently chosen.

TikTok user @makeitshinemoney has shared her top tips for increasing your chances of bagging the big prize, including the types of numbers you should be picking.

She suggests a change in strategy might be needed, advising: "Avoid numbers that are related to dates like your birthday and anniversary.

"These numbers fall between 1 and 31, so even though the probability of the number being selected is the same if you play numbers above 31, it may increase the chance of you not having to share the prize with other players."

Research carried out by BoyleSports also revealed that if you're hoping for a windfall, you should steer clear of the following numbers:

• 30

• 6

• 21

• 48

• 43

• 18

This is because, since October 2015, they've been the least frequently-picked lottery numbers.

User @makeitshinemoney also recommended playing "less popular" lottery games, despite the fact that the "prize amount is probably lower" – but you'll have increased odds of winning.

Her third tip was to "study the most popular drawn numbers", which BoyleSports' study says are 37, 52, 58, 39, 42, and 27.

She then recommended you "go and buy a lottery ticket" now you've heard her advice. In the comments, someone wrote: "Probabilities are skewed towards a certain distribution. It is not a normal distribution. There are skews."

Another recommended "investing money" instead of gambling it on playing the lottery.
