Lotus wishes ‘Merry Driftmas’ to all in new stunt video

‘Tis the season to be sideways, with Lotus wishing car enthusiasts across the world a ‘Merry Driftmas’ in a new video.

The British sports car firm has posted a clip of a Christmas tree being delivered to its headquarters in Hethel, Norfolk. Sounds pretty mundane in itself — but this isn’t a regular courier job.

Instead, the tree — baubles and all — is fixed to the back of a Lotus Evora GT410 Sport using carbon fibre ‘and a little welding’. With security letting the 404bhp machine into the facility, things start as they mean to continue with an impressive drift around a roundabout.

It encounters the very Lotus Esprit used by James Bond in The Spy Who Loved Me on its journey through the Elise production line, where a more civil approach is taken, before exiting to a quality testing area that states should be ‘kept clear’. Of course, it’s here another perfect 360-degree drift takes place.

With the tree still fully intact, the Evora takes to the car park for some more sideways action, this time circling a few other cars, before delivering the tree to the site’s main building — where it takes pride of place.

It’s certainly a spectacular video, though as a disclaimer it should be mentioned that very few Christmas trees would handle this kind of abuse. Always celebrate Driftmas responsibly.
