Louis Walsh has given the strongest indication yet that Westlife are actually reuniting – but as a four-piece.

The Irish boyband of course made their name in the late '90s under the guidance of X Factor judge Louis, and although he's now revealed that a comeback is on the cards, Brian McFadden apparently won't be involved.

Louis explained to The Sun that it'll just be the "fab four" of Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, Nicky Byrne and Kian Egan.

"Brian won't be involved, it will be the Fab Four. Totally," he said. "The four of them just see them themselves as Westlife."

The pop manager even added that he wouldn't change his mind if McFadden, who famously left the boyband in 2004, personally asked to rejoin his former bandmates.

"No, I prefer a happy band and four happy people," insisted Louis. "They all know each other, they all respect each other. Three of them live in the same town in Sligo, so it makes more sense."

Digital Spy has reached out to McFadden's rep for comment.

Just last month, Louis appeared on This Morning and suggested that the reunion would be for "a few tours and a new album", although at the time admitted he hadn't actually talked to the band about it.

So we can only imagine that he's done a lot of ringing round since The X Factor finished a couple weeks ago...

Westlife achieved a staggering 26 Top 10 hits during their 14-year run, which included 14 No.1 singles in the UK.
