The Summer of love is drawing to a close and after playing Cupid for a bunch of singletons, Caroline Flack will tonight crown one lucky in love couple the 2017 winners.

But despite surviving arguments, new arrivals, dumpings and recouplings to reach the final, have the remaining four couples got what it takes to survive back in the UK?

We asked The Dating Guru aka James Preece to give us his verdict on this year's summer lovers.

Jamie Jewitt and Camilla Thurlow

As a relationship coach, these are two that I believe have the most potential in the long term. They are both mature enough to know what they need to do to make it work. They have shared values, interests and goals which could make them a very powerful couple. In their short time together, they’ve never had an argument and they constantly praise, compliment and reassure each other.

It’s these things that are the glue to any relationship and they’ve had enough bad experiences in the past to know they have a good thing. The only issue I can see arising is that they both spend long periods of time away working. But I’m sure they will find a way to overcome this. They could be the ones to watch in the future.

Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies

These two make a very sweet couple and they’ve had one of the biggest emotional journeys on the show. Despite them choosing to end things early on, they always kept their eternity bracelets which was the biggest clue they didn’t want to give up. I believe they really are in love with each other – but I don’t think they are ready to settle down. Kem has never had a girlfriend before and Amber needs constant attention and validation. Once the show wraps, other people will turn their heads – just as they did in the villa and I’m not convinced they will remain faithful. They will do a few big interviews but arguments will start happening once they face real life.

But, they could both realise the grass isn’t always greener and could end up back in each other’s arms before too long…. perhaps even going so far as to get married.

Marcel Somerville and Gabby Allen

Of all the couples, this is the one I would like to see make it work in the outside world. They are both such nice people and have taken their time to get to know each other properly. They are the only couple who have decided not to have sex until they leave, which has given them time for true attraction to happen. The problem is that they have huge insecurities which might get in the way. Gabby isn’t happy with her looks and Marcel has his own issues. He jokes about things but really, he worries about much more than he makes out.

The lie detector test only made things worse and there will always be doubts that Gabby is really in love with him. I believe she is, but her low self-esteem and his habit of over analysing little things could cause trouble.

What they should do is spend time getting to know the real versions of each other – not the sides they show for a TV show, but the ones they keep hidden that show their vulnerability. Only then can they fully support each other and grow the relationship.

Chris Hughes and Olivia Attwood

Not looking good: Chris Hughes and Olivia Attwood are based on lust - not love

This relationship is built on lust rather than love. They genuinely do find each other hugely attractive but they have so little in common I can’t see it working out. Opposites can attract, but there must be a willingness from both sides to put effort in. While Chris will do anything it takes, Olivia will soon grow tired of him. I’m not worrying about him though as he’s a genuine, loving, good looking and funny guy. He’s about to find himself overwhelmed with female attention now he’s in the public eye.

As well as this, they live so far apart that they won’t be able to see each other that often. A long distance relationship won’t work for them as the lust will fizzle out. If they decide to move closer I believe they’ll only end up bickering over small issues.

Love Island is on ITV2 tonight at 9pm.
