Despite the nation watching with broken hearts after England missed out on the World Cup final, over in Love Island land a new level of euphoria was on the cards for Muggy Megan and Wes while Dr Alex went on another first date.
Yes, the whirlwind romance of the villa have officially taken things to the next (next) level and become girlfriend and boyfriend .
In the twist practically everyone was expecting before the week was out, both wanted to be the one to reach out to the other after growing closer in recent days, especially after their night in the hideaway, and in the end it was Megan who instigated "the chat".
And, talking of things that were expected, guess who new girl Alexandra fancies? Yes, that’s right. Our dear friend Dr Lobster.
The sunburnt medic gushed over it “finally being his time” (again) as the latest newcomer entered the villa and immediately got to take two guys on a date.
For her first date, the make-up artist invited Alex out for brunch before toddling off to the Beach Hut.
Beaming, he said: “I am so excited. I did not expect that text at all. There is a new girl here and I am going to have brunch with her. I am absolutely chuffed, it’s a great feeling.”
We mean, given that almost every girl who has come into the show has taken Alex out on a date before letting him down gently/sort of gently, we aren’t sure how he never saw it coming but anyway.
Alexandra then complimented Alex on his twerking, which she saw because she had been watching the show before coming in. She then questioned why Alex was still single, which sort of suggests she hasn’t been watching closely enough.
The Hertfordshire girl then told her date: “I feel like people haven’t really given you a chance and I wanted to give myself the opportunity to get to know you.
“You seem so respectful and you seem like such a gentleman and that is really what I’m looking for.
“My mum loves you, she was like ‘go for the Doctor!’” she added before saying she would like to see him again.
Mocking aside, the two did genuinely seem to hit it off as they bonded over a love of cars, which we know Alex loves.
Meanwhile, mopey Laura made a reappearance as Alexandra chose new Jack for her second date - although she need not worry as they spent most their date talking about Dr Alex before deciding to be friends - but it soon emerged that Dr Alex may have to worry about new boy Idris, who has his eye on Alexandra.
At least we managed to forget about England’s defeat at the hands of Croatia for an hour.
Love Island continues Thursday at 9pm on ITV2.
