Excitement is building as the new season of Love Island gets underway tonight.

A new batch of singletons will be heading into the villa to see if they can find love. Maya Jama will return in the hosting seat as the next series of the popular dating show starts on ITV2 at 9pm.

The new islanders making their way into the villa for this season includes Samantha Kenny, a 26-old make-up artist from Liverpool. She will be joined by 11 other contestants as they aim to find their true love.

The contestants will be hoping to fare better than last season's winners, Jess Harding and Sammy Root. The two confirmed they split just months after being crowned champions of the dating show.

Jess confirmed their split in an Instagram Q&A last year as she said: "It's been over a week now since we split so I'm getting there. We shared a once-in-a-lifetime experience together so of course I'm sad."

We have taken a look at the other couples from last season and whether they are still together

Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki

Last season's runner's up are still in a happy relationship as they share updates with each other on Instagram. Whitney shared a reel of the two together last month as Lochan said: "Me and my Queen lookin extra fly."

Ella Thomas and Tyrique Hyde

The couple were favourites with viewers and eventually finished in third place. However, after months of speculation they finally confirmed in April that their romance didn't last after the villa.

Molly Marsh and Zach Noble

Molly and Zach finished in fourth spot and have reportedly had an on off relationship. However, it seems as though the two are still together as Molly shared a snap together just three weeks ago.

She said: "This is Love… LHR to AUS?!"

Mitchel Taylor and Ella Barnes

The couple announced their romance had come to an end soon after leaving the villa. Ella said: "Hi guys, just wanted to come on here and keep you all updated. You deserve to know as I wouldn’t be where I am without you.

"Unfortunately, myself and Mitch have decided to end our relationship. I really wanted things to work out and I’m gutted that our journey has come to an end. I wish Mitch all the best and hope he finds his happiness. It’s time for both of us to start a new chapter."

Mitch added: "We had no intentions of ending but with our busy lives at the moment and living the other side of the country it made it extremely hard for it to work.I wish Ella nothing but the best as she is a lovely girl and deserves the world."
