Love Island's Dr Alex leaves a sour taste as he charms Alexandra into giving him a second chance

After weeks of Love Island viewers falling for Dr Alex’s awkward charm, he’s finally begun to show his true colours.

While Samira got criticised for being “desperate” simply because she was a woman, Alex escaped all that criticism, managing to play it off like a bumbling Brit pulled straight out of a Hugh Grant movie from the early noughties.

But his relentless expectation that women coming into the villa should fancy him was borderline creepy, let alone his tantrums when a new islander “mugged him off” for someone they had a better connection with.

So when he tossed Alexandra aside after developing a crush on new Laura, Alex made it clear just how little respect he has for the opposite sex - despite claiming to be a gentleman about as much as Georgia insisted she was “loyal, babe”.

After new Laura decided to snog new Jack, Alex was left with no option but to scramble together a last minute plan to get back with Alexandra. We’re not saying he doesn’t fancy her - of course he does - Alex would go for anything female and with a pulse. But the way he’s gone about it has left a sour taste in our mouths.

After Alexandra was rightfully upset when Paul picked original Laura, Alex seemed frustrated that she wasn’t grateful that he stepped in to “save” her. After all, he tossed her aside and came crawling back when new Laura didn’t care - romance at its finest!

Speaking in the beach hut, he said: “It’s a bit disappointing, I kind of put myself out there and in front of everyone I tried to say that I’d like to give things another try.”

Sorry Alex, a woman isn’t required to be thankful just because a man has decided to show interest in her. This is not the 1800s and Alexandra isn’t being married off by her family. This painfully misogynistic outlook Alex possesses has reared its head on more than one instance in the villa, and we’re still confused as to why viewers are so happy to give him a pass.

“Did you notice when she sat down with me, how grumpy. She was so p***** off. I thought she might be a little bit happier.”

Instead of allowing Alexandra some time to put things behind her, the villa’s resident therapists Jack and Dani decided to interfere and try and give Alex another chance.

Jack suggested some role play, where Alex could pretend he didn’t treat Alexandra so poorly. You know, because pretending like it never happened makes much more sense than him acknowledging his behaviour and apologising. Nice one, Jack.

“Alexandra, come with me. What we’re going to do is a bit of a role-play. I’ve heard you’ve got a broken heart, so I just wanted to come here and fix it.”

Let us just say this louder for those in the back: YOU ARE LITERALLY THE ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR HER FEELING THIS WAY ALEX.

Elsewhere in the villa, Paul and original Laura’s relationship appeared to be going well.

But he had a confession to make. Thankfully it wasn’t that he has his eyes on someone else, but instead it involved arguably one of the world’s most famous popstar; It turns out Paul once snogged Britney Spears in a music video.

Honestly, first Laura had to compete with Megan and now Britney? Girl can’t catch a break. But it’s fine, because Paul seems to have his sights set solely on Laura - sorry Brit.

Lastly, new Laura and new Jack finally got a chance to enjoy a one-on-one date outside of the villa. After their brief snog, sparks had been flying between them and the date seemed to go even better than they could have hoped.

“The date was so good,” gushed new Laura in the beach hut. “It was just so nice to be at the beach, which is somewhere I spend so much time, and to be there with Jack was just so special.”

Love Island continues Sunday at 9pm on ITV2.
