Love Island has responded after an intruder tried to break into the premises.
Reports circulated online that a YouTuber had attempted to get into the villa through the trees and document it via a livestream before being caught by security, something the show has now confirmed.
"Last night a security breach was identified and an intruder was removed from the Villa with immediate effect," a spokesperson said (via Metro).
"The safety of both our islanders and our production crew remains our primary concern.
"As part of our stringent COVID safety measures, the Villa area that was trespassed has been fully deep cleaned before being made accessible again to the islanders and crew."
The intruder, identified as Omer Majid, made it to the garden but did not get into the house.
The current series of Love Island has come under criticism for an overabundance of cliffhangers, a lack of diversity despite the producers' insistence, and the cast members being more friendly than romantic (are the Islanders too aware the lucrative brand deals usually last longer than the relationships?).
Love Island usually airs new episodes on weekdays and Sunday nights at 9pm on ITV2, with a recap show on Saturday nights. Tonight (July 7) however, the show will be on at 10pm due to the football.
