'Love Island' contestants to wear second hand clothes in new series

Love Island contestants are set to swap their usual wardrobes for pre-loved fashion this year, it has been announced.

The hopefuls on the ITV dating show usually lounge around the villa and pool in a dazzling array of bikinis and glam dresses.

But it has been announced that the programme has teamed up with eBay, following research that showed UK shoppers are becoming more and more conscious of fast fashion and its impact.

The eco-friendly move means that the singles looking for love this year will wear second hand items.

Bosses have also said that there will be a shared wardrobe in the new villa, and stylist Amy Bannerman – who has worked with the likes of chart stars Rita Ora and Dua Lipa – will be styling the contestants.

Executive producer Mike Spencer said in a statement that Love Island was “thrilled” to be teaming with eBay.

“As a show we strive to be a more eco-friendly production with more focus on ways in which we can visibly show this on screen,” he said.

Eve Williams, eBay UK’s chief marketing officer, said it was hoped that the partnership would “inspire the nation to think differently and make more conscious choices when it comes to their wardrobes”.

Love Island, which is hosted by Laura Whitmore, is expected to return on 6 June.

Fans of the hit series, which is set to return to our screens in June, will be able to explore eBay’s pre-loved fashion via the ‘Shop The Show’ tab on the Love Island app.
