Love Island spoilers follow.

As Islanders were still reeling from this week's brutal multiple elimination, a new recoupling promised to shake up the villa.

Fans know all too well there's not a moment of rest on Love Island, and tonight's (July 12) episode hinted at some more drama ahead when the couples received a text in the final moments.

Mimii Ngulube got a message saying new bombshell Lolly would pick first in the new matching game, and all the other girls would follow suit. However, some fans branded the moment a tad tame on Twitter/X, as the recoupling did nothing but confirm the current relationships.

"Islanders, tonight there will be a recoupling in which the girls will choose which boy they want to couple up with, as the newest arrival, Lolly will choose first," the text read.

Earlier in the episode, Josh Oyinsan was upset to see his partner Mimii and her ex Ayo Odukoya reconnect. After their conversation in the den, it looked like Mimii was open to a friendship while Ayo was still considering her as a romantic option.

Opening up to Sean Stone, Josh admitted he was annoyed at the two of them getting cosy.

"That sh** pisses me off man… because I've been here doing the most," Josh said.

"That's not the first time I've seen her having one-on-one chats with him. There's clearly something there… I don't like seeing that."

Similarly, Ayo's current partner Jessica Spencer also voiced her hurt feelings at seeing Ayo so interested in rekindling his connection with Mimii, admitting she was feeling "pissed off".

Elsewhere in the villa, Sean and Matilda Draper headed out for their first date, enjoying drinks and paella with a view after a Porsche ride.

While the couple made their relationship exclusive, other bonds didn't appear as steady and could be rocked in the recoupling, with all eyes on Mimii and Jessica.

Lolly kicked off by picking Konnor Ewudzi, while Nicole Samuel shared her "love" for Ciaran Davies, who replied by asking her to be his girlfriend.

Singleton Grace Jackson chose to couple up with Reuben Collins, and Jessy Potts was happy to continue her relationship with Joey Essex, while Matilda professed her feelings for Sean.

Finally, Mimii picked Josh with a heartfelt speech, leaving Jessica to choose Ayo, reminding him that "communication is key".

Fans took to social media to express their frustration at what could've been a gloriously chaotic moment.

"I find it annoying that every time the producers could choose chaos, they play the wrong hand at the recouplings every time," one person noted on Twitter/X, while another expressed nostalgia for the good ol' days of Love Island when recouplings "had fights".

"I miss the days when recouplings had fights but now we have couples becoming official, we used to be a proper country," they wrote, while someone else suggested Love Island UK should learn from the US version.

Love Island airs on ITV2 and streams on ITVX.
