Love Island viewers are agonising over a cliffhanger in Thursday night's episode (July 12) that left the fate of fan favourite Dr Alex George hanging in the balance.

The ITV2 reality show led up to the latest recoupling ceremony on Thursday night, but stopped short of actually revealing the results - leaving viewers to wait until Friday's show to see which two boys were dumped.

The latest drama revolved around new girl Alexandra Cane getting her pick of coupling with either Dr Alex, Idris Virgo or Kieran Nicholls, with each guy getting a shot to impress her in a cheeky rescue-themed challenge.

Although Dr Alex seemed to make a good impression on Alexandra, the scheming Idris and smooth-talker Kieran both tried working their magic too in order to stay in the villa on Friday night.

"This is crazy, either she picks me or I go home," Dr Alex shrugged at one point. "This is D-Day for me. Do or get dumped."

In the Beach Hut, Alexandra admitted she had mixed emotions about wielding the power to send two boys home, explaining: "Ultimately, the decision is down to me. I have now got to choose between Alex, Kieran and Idris… The three guys that I've got to choose between, they are all so nice.

"It's just making my decision really, really hard because they are all so lovely and I don't want to send anybody home… I've got to go with my instinct, and who my mind and heart is telling me."

However, the episode left off on the verge of the recoupling ceremony, meaning that Dr Alex's fate will remain unknown until tomorrow. That cruel tease sent fans into meltdown mode:

Somehow, we'll just have to survive until Friday night, people!

Love Island continues on Friday at 9pm on ITV2.
