It will be the second winter series of Love Island. (ITV)

She takes over from previous host Laura Whitmore, who quit after the most recent summer series, although her husband Iain Stirling stays on as narrator.

Love Island drew scores of Ofcom complaints in summer 2022 over alleged misogynistic and bullying behaviour from male contestants, and even prompted charity Women's Aid to put out a statement condemning the broadcaster for welcoming back controversial contestant Adam Collard.

Collard's arrival lead to Jacques O'Neill quitting the show citing mental health reasons and in his previous Love Island stint, he was accused of emotionally abusive behaviour.

ITV has confirmed that in an effort to safeguard the mental health of contestants, in all series this year they will be forced to disable their social media accounts while on the show so that friends and family cannot post on their behalf, and to limit trolling and negative comments.

As part of the duty of care measures, contestants will also be offered psychological support, training in social media and financial management, and an aftercare package.

The first winter series of Love Island aired in early 2020 hosted by Whitmore and was won by Finn Tapp and Paige Turley.

Last summer's popular Love Island winners were Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti, and fans can see more of Culuculoglu when she takes part in Dancing On Ice later this month.

Love Island begins on 16 January at 9pm on ITV2.
