Lewis Capaldi has finally spoken out about his ex girlfriend Paige Turley taking part in the current series of Love Island.

While he said it would've been nice to have a "heads up", the Someone You Loved singer also joked he wanted a slice of the prize money if Turley won while backing her for victory.

The 23-year-old shared on New Zealand radio show The Edge: "The prize is like £50,000 and I'll be like 'Well, listen, they asked you to go on it, right, I'm not saying I'm the reason but also... Slide me two grand'.”

"She never told me she was going on it,” he added. “That would have been a nice heads up. But fair play and good luck to her.”

Capaldi went on to add that he hoped Turley, whom he dated for a year between the ages of 19 and 20 before an "amicable" break-up, wins the show.

Turley, 22, revealed her connection to the singer in the opening episode of Love Island, announcing in her VT: "One of my ex-boyfriends is actually Lewis Capaldi. We dated for a year. According to the papers the song 'Someone You Loved' was about me.

"I'm so sorry, I must have been a b**ch to you."

Last night's episode saw Turley tell her fellow ITV contestants that she was previously in a relationship with the artist.

As part of a game which had the Islanders match up facts the members of the opposite sex they were about, a clue was given that one of the women had been in a couple with an artist who had a Number One single in the UK and US recently.

Turley wasn't picked, but when she confessed it was her and that Capaldi was her ex, the other Islanders were visibly shocked.
