Love Island fans said goodbye to Montana Brown and her boyfriend Alex Beattie tonight (July 23).

The couple have confirmed to Digital Spy that they are officially in a relationship but it still may be some time before she drops the L-bomb.

Alex told Montana that he loved her, but she rather awkwardly didn't reciprocate.

She later pulled Alex to one side for a chat, and broke down in tears as she explained her relationship with her father was to blame.

It was clearly a very difficult subject for her to talk about, but she's now decided to open up about the matter.

She told Digital Spy: "I've never really had a good relationship with my dad and so that often puts a barrier up with men in general.

"I told Alex about it because it's something I thought would be insightful for him to get to know me better and realise why I am a bit guarded when it comes to relationships.

"My dad never really played a big part in my life in general. For me, I've never really had a father figure. It's something I had to get used to. But I need to open up more in relationships."

When Montana refused to tell Alex she loved him, many viewers questioned her sincerity in the relationship.

However, now she's out of the villa, she admitted she's ecstatic – despite not making it to the final – because she's left with a boyfriend.

And contrary to comments she's made previously, Montana gushed that she does see a future with Alex.

She added: "I'm excited for the future. I don't need to be with the person I'm with 24/7 so it won't make any difference now we're out of the villa. I think it will help things to flourish."

During our chat, Montana also opened up about her run-in with fellow islander Gabby, who accused Montana and Alex of trying to steal her and Marcel's advice-givers status in the villa.

Although she was upset at the time, Mon insisted the drama was all water under the bridge – but she probably won't be staying in contact.

"With Gabby, it's all resolved now," she added. "You tend to overthink things in the villa when you're isolated from the outside world. It's all fine though. I don't think Gabby is playing a game at all.

"From the show, I think I'll probably just stay in touch with Amber and Olivia. I would love to see Gabby and Camilla though outside the villa."

The Love Island live final is on ITV2, Monday July 24 at 9pm.
