Ollie Williams has quit Love Island, the programme has confirmed.

Williams, who was partnered with Paige Turley on the contest before his exit, said he was departing the show because he still had feelings for someone else.

On his reasons for leaving, the 23-year-old explained in the Beach Hut: “I have to be honest with myself, and everyone, that I do still love someone else… I have to follow my heart in this scenario and it would be wrong for me to ignore these feelings.

“At the end of the day, this is Love Island and it’s about finding love. If I carried on anything with Paige, or any other girl that might come into the villa, it wouldn’t be fair on them."

An ITV spokesperson confirmed the news, stating: “Ollie has made the decision to leave the Love Island villa.”

It comes after over 200 complaints were made to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom about Williams’ participant in the programme.

There had been calls for the “trophy hunting” Cornish landowner to be dropped from the ITV2 dating show after pictures emerged online of him posing with dead animals killed in Africa.

A petition campaigning against his appearance on the show titled "Remove Ollie Williams From Winter Love Island For Trophy Hunting!" had already amassed more than 30,000 signatures.

The petition was shared by TV personality and environmentalist Chris Packham who called for Williams to be dropped from the programme.

He said: “Hello ITV and Love Island fans . The majority of people in the U.K. want to see an end to trophy hunting so perhaps it would be better to not provide a platform to anyone who kills wildlife for fun . Times are changing - will you ?”

The series already saw a notable departure before it even began as Caroline Flack stepped down from hosting the winter series.

She was replaced by Laura Whitmore, girlfriend of the show’s narrator Iain Stirling.
