Love Island has responded after former contestant Sherif Lanre claimed that another Islander repeatedly used racist language.

Sherif recently told The Sun: "There was one guy, who I will not name, who repeatedly used the N-word as he rapped in front of me.

"He said it two or three times and he was not pulled aside even though the code forbids racist language. The same rules did not seem to apply to the other contestants."

But a spokesperson for the show has insisted: "We monitor the islanders 24/7 and we have no recording of the use of this offensive language.

"And at no point does anyone use that offensive language in rap lyrics or any other time. We do have clear rules on the use of language in the villa."

ITV2 announced last week that producers and Sherif mutually agreed that he would have to leave the villa because of a breach of the contestant rules.

The show briefly addressed the departure, although fans were not satisfied with how it was handled.

Sherif himself later explained his exit, saying: "I did kick Molly-Mae [Hague] in the groin area, but it was an accident and she 100% was not injured afterwards.

"I turned to Tommy [Fury] and said, 'That was a c**t punt.' I realise now that was wrong and I would like to apologise. I've never used the word before and I don't know where it came from."

Love Island airs at 9pm on ITV2, and you can catch up on the show via ITV Hub.
