Love Island was the most-tweeted about TV of 2018, according to new stats.

The fourth series of the show received well over six million tweets from viewers during its run in June and July this year.

Elsewhere in the top 10, politics shows dominated, with Question Time receiving over 2.5 million tweets, The Andrew Marr Show with 1.6 million, The Daily Politics with 1.5 million and Newsnight with 1.3 million.

Good Morning Britain also got viewers talking, a fact that delighted its host Piers Morgan.

The stats were produced by data company Kantar Media, which analysed more than 75 million TV-related tweets from December last year to December, 2018.

It’s chief executive Andy Brown said that Brexit likely played a decisive role in driving Twitter traffic around politics shows.

“Politics and current affairs are about opinions and people are taking to the second screen to share those opinions,” he told The Times.

In terms of genre, however, entertainment dominated, with nearly 32 million tweets sent, following by drama with just over 20 million, current affairs with 12.5 million, and documentaries with just over five million.
