Love Island is starting up once more for the summer as the ITV show returns to screens on Monday, June 3 at 9pm and one (of two) Welsh contestants saw their villa prep put on ice after a nasty rugby injury. Ciaran Davies, 21, from Pencoed, near Bridgend, will enter the Spanish villa for series 11 alongside 24-year-old accounts manager from Aberdare, Nicole Samuel.

Much like many other Welsh youngsters, Ciaran is a seasoned player for a local rugby team but in the weeks running up to the show's debut, he suffered a painful injury - a broken collarbone. Not only was it a painful exit from the rugby season, but the injury also meant he couldn't hit the gym to get pool ready for the Love Island villa.

What happened on the rugby pitch?

Discussing his selection for Love Island and how he geared up for his time in the villa, Ciaran said: "I found out, I think it was a Saturday morning, that Saturday I had a rugby game after so I was very excited but obviously I can't tell anyone, then that same day I cracked my collarbone. Honestly, all I have done is make sure this is better, which it is, it's been cleared and it's completely fine."

He continued, detailing his rush to get back into shape: "I'm already back in to the gym, so I think I had about a week before I came. So honestly, I have never trained and been to the gym so hard in my entire life just to try and get into shape, get the abs showing as much as possible. So I've done a little bit but maybe not as much as I want to."

Why now for Love Island?

Ciaran said: "It’s the perfect time for me, I feel like I’m mature enough for something serious with the right girl."

What does Ciaran think are his best assets?

"The height, beard and Welsh accent usually works a charm," says Ciaran, whose cheeky charm was evident on a lads' holiday in Malia.

"When I was in Malia on a boys' holiday I pretended to be Liam Reardon from series 7 to get into a club because they wouldn’t let us in. It worked and we ended up getting a private booth and free drinks all night."

The celebrity he'd want to spend time with in the villa is.....surprising

"David Attenborough as I’d like to sit with him and hear all of his stories," said the surveyor. But he also said he'd want Madison Beer and Justin Bieber too.

Does Ciaran have an Instagram?
