Love Island's Greg O'Shea was missing in Tuesday's episode (July 23) because he attended the funeral of his grandmother.

The 24-year-old Irish rugby player flew from the ITV show in Mallorca on Monday (July 22) to the service in Dublin, and then returned immediately back again.

"Owing to a bereavement, at the wishes of his family, Greg was away from the villa for a day to attend a funeral," an ITV spokesperson told Digital Spy.

"Everyone at Love Island extends their sympathies to Greg and his family and we have since welcomed him back to the villa."

Meanwhile, Greg's father Niall O'Shea told Limerick's Live 95: "We're so happy with the way Greg has come across on the show. He is a very good family man, and his mother wanted to make sure he was there because himself and his Nan got on well."

Niall also praised the "helpful" producers for enabling Greg to fly home to pay his condolences at his grandmother Monica's funeral, and revealed that she "passed away peacefully on July 19, 2019, in the care of Talbot Lodge Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family".

Greg – who joined the ITV2 show last week – was subsequently not present in the second-half of Tuesday's episode.

He's currently coupled up with 21-year-old Amber Gill after she picked him over Michael Griffiths during Sunday's dramatic re-coupling.

Love Island airs at 9pm on ITV2, and you can catch up on the show via ITV Hub.
