A first look at Tuesday’s, June 4 edition of ITV dating show Love Island has teased that Joey Essex will have to make a big decision to make less than 24 hours after his arrival in the villa. The 33-year-old TV personality, who is best known for appearing on The Only Way is Essex (TOWIE), shocked viewers when he appeared at the end of the launch episode on Monday night.

Upon arriving at the villa host Maya Jama asks Joey: “Anyone giving you a little twinkle in your eye yet?” He replies: “Yeah course. I can see a little twinkle in someone’s eye for sure.”

Maya then tells him: “Joey, in 24 hours you will have the opportunity to steal one of these beautiful girls.” But who will he choose?

When the time comes for Joey to make his decision, in scenes airing on Tuesday night he tells his fellow islanders: “It’s obviously been tough because I have got to know all of you girls on a nice level. And obviously got to know all you boys on a cool level - I feel like we’re tight and we’re getting on well but this is Love Island….” Earlier in the day Joey decided to snog Samantha, Harriett and Nicole in a game of phone roulette.

Upon walking into the villa on Monday night, Joey said he was "king of Essex" and "ready to find [his] queen". "This isn't my first rodeo," he said. "Boys you better watch out - I'm coming for your girls."

Following his appearance several people took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to share their thoughts that he’d joined the show. "I DONT KNOW WHATS MORE WEIRD, JOEY ESSEX BEING ON LOVE ISLAND OR HIM BEING 33," one person wrote, while another said: "Why would they bring Joey Essex? Just ruining the dynamic every year by bringing a 'celeb'." Some fans were thrilled by the unexpected addition, with one exclaiming: "okay joey essex walking in was a GAG and a half #loveisland."
