The brand new series of Love Island kicks off this week on ITV2 – tonight, in fact – so what better way to get ready for the bickering, backstabbing, and heartbreak than to revisit the show’s past winners and see if they’re still very much in love.

(Spoiler: Some aren’t.)

2015: Jessica Hayes and Max Morley

Jess had a quiet start in the show’s first proper series but as time went on she became something of a fan favourite. Despite a rivalry with Naomi Bull, Max eventually saw sense and made things official in the boyfriend and girlfriend stakes; trumping Hannah and Jon to win the final.

Sadly, the pair did split up – a departure that was confirmed when Jess started dating other people and Max appeared on Ex on the Beach.

2016: Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey

The series two winners have had a somewhat up and down couple of years where love and relationships are concerned.

In September of 2016, they moved in together and remained a tight unit post-show, with public appearances and holidays together, proving that there was love beyond the series and once the camera had stopped rolling.

The pair split up in 2017 only for fans to be overjoyed when they got back together. They also went on to have a baby, Freddie-George, together – getting back together while Cara was pregnant, in fact, so it seems things turned out well.

And, as far as we know, they’re still a functioning family raising their little boy.

2017: Amber Davies and Kem Cetinary

The latest winners, Amber and Kem, didn’t even make it until Christmas, after they officially announced their split last December.

Their statement read: ‘With sadness, we’ve decided to separate. We fell in love in the villa and want to thank all the fans of the show for supporting us.

‘Our schedules made it difficult. We’ll remain good friends.’

In April, Amber showed off her new boyfriend James Hawkins on her Instagram. After Kem’s appearance on Dancing on Ice he was linked to Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt, but the pair have always denied any romantic connection, insisting their friendship was platonic.

With the brand new series kicking off tonight, we’ve already been introduced to a dozen or so men and women about to enter the Love Island villa: will Dani (daughter of Danny Dyer) find true love with model Eyal or personal trainer Adam? What about West End performer Samira? Or will Dr. Alex (yes, he’s an actual GP) get anyone’s heart racing?

Catch Love Island from tonight, at 9pm, on ITV2.
