Love Stories: Rob Vassie and Charlotte Bevan

Jobs: Director of sport for a primary schools trust, and corporate receptionist

Ages: Rob is 26, Charlotte is 25

Live: Mile End

Length of time together: One year

Status: Official

The meet-cute

Rob: We were both watching the World Cup quarter-finals last year, and Charlotte was waiting for her friends outside the Rusty Bike pub in Mile End. After my jaw hit the floor, my friend said he would punch me if I didn’t ask for her number. It took me three attempts but I finally did it. I suggested we meet in Shoreditch because I wanted her to think I was cool and quirky.

First impressions

Charlotte: I couldn’t believe this man was talking to me. He’s completely my type on paper: gorgeous and very tanned, with an amazing body. I thought it must have been a joke.

The first date

Charlotte: We met at Liverpool Street station on Saturday morning. Rob took me to Dark Sugars and I ordered an iced coffee instead of the one with chocolate on top he wanted me to get. Then we went to Duck and Waffle and wandered around Shoreditch chatting.

Meeting the friends

Rob: My friends were sceptical at first because I’d been single for so long but as soon as she moved in they thought she was great. My parents think Charlotte is really cosmopolitan and that I’m probably too scruffy for her.

Muscling in

Charlotte: Mum said: “He has so many muscles he doesn’t know what to do with them.”

Moving in

Rob: We moved in after seven months and it went really well: not once have I been annoyed about having to share my space. Charlotte fitted right in. I’m such a lone wolf and usually get bored of people quickly but miraculously I’m able to tolerate her all day, every day. We’re more or less inseparable now.

Head in the game

Charlotte: I love how kind-hearted Rob is. He’s definitely more stubborn than me, and more logical — I don’t really make much sense when I talk.

Caught on camera

Rob: For dates we usually grab bikes and head to Hackney, Shoreditch or London Fields, and spend a lot of time in Victoria Park. We’ve started vlogging — we’re not fussed about how many views we get but it is cool to look back at how much we get around London.

Pet names

Rob: I call her Little Possum. She calls me RV.

Worlds apart

Rob: I’m moving to Bangkok for work in two weeks’ time so we’re spending as much time together as possible, making our last vlogs. It’s going to be a huge test for us. Charlotte will be coming out to visit in October — she’s looking to potentially move out there too, if we like it.
