Norman and Kendra Craggs are celebrating 70 years since they each said 'I do'.

And they have attributed the secret to their long-lasting marriage to a very simple and quintessentially English tradition - Norman, 93, makes Kendra, 90, a cuppa EVERY single morning.

The gorgeous pair met when Kendra was aged 15 after Norman's National Service in the RAF. He served his apprenticeship as a pattern maker at Thornaby's Head Wrightsons and then spent most of his working life at Shaws Steel Foundry, in Middlesbrough.

The duo married on June 5, 1954, at Thornaby Baptist Church and they lived in Fordy Grove, Thornaby, prior to moving to Fairfield, Stockton, where their two daughters Melanie Hinson, 62, and Stephanie Maughan, 53, were brought up. They later went on to have three grandchildren - Melanie's son Bertie, 24, who works in the Peak District; and USA-based Stephanie's children, Evie, 22, who is studying at Newcastle University, and Pippa, 18.

Proud daughter Melanie said her parents still live independently at their home in Eaglescliffe, and continue to do their own housework, meals and garden.

Melanie, who now lives and works in Northumberland as a director of school improvement for a multi academy trust, said: "They are marvellous for their age. They go out for coffee or lunch everyday and are well known in the cafes and shops in Yarm. My sister and I are enormously proud of them.

"Dad enjoys spending time doing his garden and listening to New Orleans Jazz. Mum loves to shop and enjoys buying gifts for family and friends. They are members of Stockton Baptist Church. They go out everyday for coffee or lunch and are regulars at Crathorne Hall, Roots Coffee Shop and enjoy a weekly Sunday roast at The Stables at Wynyard."

Melanie then revealed her parents' secret to the seven-decade marriage, of which the whole family is immensely proud: "They would would attribute their long and happy marriage down to Dad making an early morning cup of tea for Mum every day!"
