Lovecraft Country spoilers for season 1, episode 10 'Full Circle' follow.

Lovecraft Country came to an end in spectacular fashion last night (October 18), and it's fair to say a LOT happened in the season 1 finale.

The show has been telling a story that blends the supernatural with the historical and societal oppression of people of colour all season, but it looks the script has been flipped going into a potential season 2.

To very briefly recap: Christina (Abbey Lee) was defeated and her ritual was sabotaged, leading to the ability to use magic being severed for all white people – but it looks like Atticus (Jonathan Majors) paid the ultimate price.

There's a lot to break down, and showrunner Misha Green went through some of the bigger plot points in a chat with Collider, starting with the ancestral space that Hanna created.

"We talked a lot about if Atticus' family had the Book of Names, why wasn't there magic in his family?" Green explained.

"The idea is that sometimes you get power when you're afraid of it and you're afraid of what it can do because of what people have done with power.

"The idea was to revisit this space and understand that Hanna had realised that bounding the book was not what she should have done when she got the book. And then, it was like, how do we get back to Hanna? How do we find Hanna?" she continued.

"The idea of this ancestral space and the ancestral fire, which is burning in all of us, being the same thing as if she ran through the fire to get out. It's all of those Phoenix metaphors that are really interesting to me and the idea of, what do we use to fuel our righteous rage."

Meanwhile, Green also touched on Atticus' sacrifice in the final episode, saying that it was hugely important for two reasons. Firstly, because of how it linked in to his destiny and secondly, because of how his actions change the world's balance of power.

"We talked a lot about Atticus' arc and this idea that he's a man who has been told his destiny. He's a hero who has been told his destiny is to die, and of course, he's going to fight that, every chance he can get," Green shared.

"And then, he comes to the realisation of understanding the importance of what his sacrifice will mean. We talked a lot about what that sacrifice would give and how it would change the world.

"It was very natural to come to this idea of changing the power balance. What that will look like once that power balance has been changed was very exciting for us, storytelling wise, to explore," she added.

And while Green wouldn't go into any specifics about season 2, she did add that they have known the direction the show will go in for a long time.

"You have a direction, and then you explore and you find where it takes you," she commented. "Even starting this season of this show, we knew what direction we wanted to go in, for subsequent seasons. It was very exciting."

Oh, and if you thought the robotic arm was cool, expect to see more things like that going forward too, as Green explains that she's had ideas like that in her head for years and is all about bringing them to the screen.

"There are millions of things in my head where I'm like, 'I'd love to see this. I'd love to do this. This would be great. That would be great. This would be amazing. We have to do a version of that,'" Green added.

"For me, I'm just excited about the fact that people have responded and vibed so well with the world, and that there might be opportunities to continue to do it."

Meanwhile, Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors has been reportedly cast as a major Marvel villain in the MCU, and he's enjoying teasing people about these reports.

Lovecraft Country is available to watch via NOW TV in the UK. US viewers can watch with HBO Max.
