Loyalist killer who murdered Co Armagh taxi driver during Drumcree stand-off dies

A Loyalist killer who murdered a taxi driver during the Drumcree stand-off has died.

Clifford McKeown, who was sentenced to 24 years in prison for the murder of taxi driver Michael McGoldrick in July 1996, has died with a funeral service to take place later this week.

McKeown, a member of the LVF, carried out the killing during the Drumcree stand-off in the early hours of July 8, in the Aghagallon area near Lurgan.

The murder was described by a judge as a "chilling execution" and that it was a cowardly and random attack.

A post on Funeral Times says that McKeown died in hospital on Tuesday, February 4, along with saying he was a "loving uncle and great uncle" and "Will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by the entire family circle."

His brother Malcolm Mckeown was shot dead outside a filling station in Waringstown, Co Down, on August 19, 2019, aged 54.
