It's been revealed that Lucifer favourite Tom Ellis once auditioned for a part in the period epic Outlander.

He sat down with Outlander hero Sam Heughan (that's Jamie Fraser to you and me) for a catch up via Square Mile recently, where the two old friends waxed lyrical about the Scottish Highlands-based series.

"I'm going to let you into a little secret," began Ellis, "I auditioned for Outlander, not for Jamie Fraser but for Tobias Menzies's part, 'Black Jack' Randall."

Responding, the Scotsman said: "I'm not sure how I'd have felt having you, I don't know, assault me shall we say..." in reference to the character's torture and subsequent sexual abuse of Jamie.

"That would have been quite tricky, but I know we would have had a great time," continued Heughan.

"Actually, you would have been brilliant at that because Frank Randall is this charming, loveable character and then Black Jack, the other part you would have had to play, is just violent.

"It's a great part. Tobias, of course, does an amazing job but that would have been so different."

Lucifer season 4 and 5A are available to watch now on Netflix, with season 5B arriving soon. Catch up on seasons one to three via Amazon Prime Video.

Outlander airs on Starz in the US. The show streams on Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
