London commuters heading via Oxford Circus could nab themselves a free journey on the Underground next week thanks to a promotion by Lucozade.

From May 30 to June 2, the brand will be distributing free bottles of its distinctive orange energy drink, which can be cashed in for a single free journey on the Tube. The bottles contain a contactless chip in the base and can be swiped like an Oyster or payment card.

Lucozade doesn't specify how far you can travel, but we're guessing it's valid until you swipe out again, wherever that location may be. Travellers should be wary of throwing their bottles away, however, unless they want a nasty surprise at the barriers when they head overground again.

Thousands of the bottles will be given away next week within Oxford Circus Tube station but won't be available anywhere else.

"We are excited for Lucozade Energy to be able to launch this new campaign on the Tube," said a Lucozade Energy exec. "In a city that's always on the go, we're giving Londoners an extra opportunity to get where they need to be in a fun and unique way."

We'd hardly say that swiping a bottle across a scanner a couple of times classifies as fun, but it's possibly unique. And also potentially useless if you already own a monthly travelcard, which you probably do if commuting via Oxford Circus.

But if you don't, you know where to go.
