Well, this is awkward.

Just days after the head of Luc Besson's studio, EuropaCorp, 'confirmed' that a sequel to surprise 2014 hit Lucy is in the works, Besson himself has denied it.

Near the end of a lengthy (and French) post aimed at journalists on his Instagram, the director said: "For info: no I do not prepare Lucy 2. Neither yesterday nor tomorrow.

"Yet this fake News has been around the world thanks to you ...."

And he didn't stop there.

"You will say to me: 'It is not very serious.' It is true, you are right ... but it is 'false' and normally this word should not be part of your vocabulary, because if we can no longer [believe you], how do we hold a democracy?" he continued.

"Our freedom depends on your integrity."

It's interesting of Besson to direct this at journalists, especially since the original source for the Lucy 2 story came from the CEO of the studio that made Lucy speaking at a shareholder's meeting.

The report initially read that CEO Marc Shmuger had said EuropaCorp was actively developing a sequel to Lucy, and that Besson had already written the script. So was there a mistranslation, or is something else going on?

It was also stated in the same shareholder's meeting that Beeson's next film is another female-led action film (that is an original IP) that begins shooting next month.

The director has already written a second and a third Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets – but he admits he has mostly written them just for the fun of it (which is good because the first one... didn't do so well).
