Lulu has revealed she keeps her youthful energy by taking a short nap in the afternoon.

The 75-year-old singer – who is currently on her farewell Champagne for Lulu tour after 60 years in music – recently revealed she does not speak before midday in order to preserve her voice. And now the Shout singer has confessed she has started taking afternoon naps as she values her sleep so highly.

Lulu was appearing on Loose Women and joked about doing some pelvic floor exercises live on air as she admitted she rarely sleeps through the night these days, as she has to get up to visit the bathroom.

Lulu was welcomed onto the show by excited panelists Charlene White , actor Linda Robson, Brenda Edwards and guest presenter Corrie star Sally Dynevor.

Dynevor asked Absolutely Fabulous star Lulu how she keeps her energy. The singer said: "I think I drive everybody in my life mad. I am very energetic. But at this point in my life - don't tall anyone, at this point, I have a nap in the afternoon!" She sighed: "Twenty minutes and I'm like 'Oh yeah!' "

The Scottish star continued: "I'm lucky, I've always had a lot of energy. But of course today, it's recovering, to be able to do your best. It's so important that we look at ourself and see what works for us. I love my sleep and I don't sleep as much as I used to."

Asked how long her average night sleep tended to be, she responded: "Six, seven, I'd like to have eight [hours]. I have to get up once – you know why. I don't drink lots of water. If I stop drinking water at nine o'clock, I don't not have to get up, but I do get up only once, so I'm good."

Lulu then joked about doing her pelvic floor exercises saying: "Pull up in the perineum Lulu, pull up in the perineum."

The singer recently revealed she does not talk in the mornings to preserve her voice. She told the BBC in April: “I don’t speak before 12 noon. I can understand why you think I’m lying. But no, I’m very disciplined. I exercise my voice, all that stuff. I watch my diet. And I don’t speak before 12 noon when I’m on tour. It’s not a big deal. I’ve done total silence for weeks.”

And she previously told The One Show she was retiring from touring because she had "partied enough" after 60 years.

Presenter Brenda Edwards appeared on the show with make-up on only one eye. She had previously been wearing an eye patch after suffering a painful infection in her right eye. Edwards explained that while her eye was much recovered she could not risk putting make-up on it. So she wore bright blue eye line on just one eye.

Some viewers questioned her decision to wear make-up at all.

One wrote on social media platform X: "Why not just have both eyes with no make up? I'm sure everyone will be fine with that. #loosewomen" Another said: "Why didn’t Brenda just leave the eye make up off, she looks fine without it #loosewomen" Another viewer commented: "Brenda attention seeking with the makeup #loosewomen" And another shared: "surely it would make sense to not have any make up on either eye?? #loosewomen"

But one complimented: "#loosewomen Brenda love to stand out and why not"

Loose Women airs on ITV at 12.30pm on weekdays.
