Chicago rapper Wasalu Jaco declared that this sixth album was “cancelled” just before Christmas, throwing an online tantrum after one of his freestyles was accused of being anti-Semitic.

Here it is all the same, skipping across genres without much to rile the internet further. “I love my mama,” he declares on the closing piano soul of More Than My Heart.

Best known over here for his appearance on Kanye West’s Touch the Sky, he reaches higher on the powerful electronic barrage NGL, and when delivering frantic vocals over house-rattling bass on Made in the USA.

However, he sounds less impressive when attempting pop rock on Pick Up the Phone and dated disco on It’s Not Design.

Controversy permitting, though this album isn’t perfect, he says there are two more coming soon.
