Luther series 5 is getting closer and closer with each passing day, and the BBC has kindly given us a new piece of casting info that also hints at where the new episodes could go.

The latest addition to the grim and gritty cop drama is none other than Hermione Norris, star of Cold Feet and Innocent.

The Beeb revealed that Norris will play Dr Vivien Lake, described as "a well-respected psychiatrist who cares for some of the most vulnerable of society".

An official release states: "When Luther is called to solve a spate of monstrous murders, Vivien's unique perspective might be the link to help stop these horrendous killings."

They key words here are 'might', implying that she may not be as helpful as Luther would hope, and 'well-respected psychiatrist' because, let's face it, it's always the psychiatrists what dun it in these sorts of shows. Especially the well-respected ones.

Vera's Wunmi Mosaku is joining the cast as Luther's new partner Catherine Halliday, while veteran cast members Dermot Crowley, Patrick Malahide and Michael Smiley are back as DSU Martin Schenk, George Cornelius and Deadhead respectively.

Ruth Wilson also confirmed that Alice would factor into the fifth series, despite being supposedly dead.

A synopsis for series five states that there will be plenty of "false leads and misdirection" in the case, while Luther must confront the ghosts of his past and make a devastating sacrifice.

Luther is expected to return to BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US in late 2018. We can't wait.
